For this months Green Pepper Press crusade - Text Messaging, I cut various words, phrases and passages of text from some old magazines and arranged them on my page. After gluing them down I thought it looked a bit patchy with the colours, so I went over it with some watered down gouache paint in a swirly pattern with a sponge. I like using the gouache paints as they leave a chalky finish when dry. Because most of the papers I used were glossy, the paint didn't turn out exactly as I'd hoped, but it will do for now.Still thinking about what to put on it next - should I take it to the sewing machine like my last two projects? Or maybe I could stamp some bolder words over it. It'll come to me...
Take a peek at what everyone else has been doing for this crusade - maybe you could have a go yourself!
Very cool! I love the softness of the colors behind the paint.
ReplyDeleteThe painted version creates a much more interesting softness. I look forward to seeing what comes next...
ReplyDeleteDebra - love the linear composition and the various colors you found. Love that you tried the wash over it - it really settles down the brightness for a cool effect, and it is fun to see it next to the original. Thanks for sharing both photos. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteGreat pages! I prefer the colourful one . I believe that we should enjoy the colours in life instead of hiding them. Of course, sometimes it can get a bit busy, but this time I thought it was perfect without the goache. We are all different, aren't we?
ReplyDeleteI like the softening--it leaves more to the imagination. I also like the linear posture of the entire piece.
ReplyDeleteFor me the couple of pieces of text that run vertically really make the page - well spotted Debra. Both versions work for me, but in different ways; the colourful as it is, whereas the washed out one would make a neat background.
ReplyDeleteI think your washed down page will be great to work on next. Love to see what you will do with it.
ReplyDeleteI like both the before and after. The addition of the gouache gives it a softer look.
ReplyDeleteSeeing both pages is a great help to me. I like the first on it's own but see the 2nd as more of a background. I'd like to see it bordered!
ReplyDeleteI think after adding the gouache, you could add a few stamps in some areas. The first one could stand on its own...but it's what you like.

Great page, I found the glossy paper harder to use. Maybe next time, I'll try a little paint.
